I disagree. Firefighters save lives and property from fire, police protect us from other people that break the law, by saying NO! you can't do that. Most folks don't like to be told they can't do something (this thread being a great case in point). So the only way a cop could be a hero is if he left you alone, right?
I'd hope that most are like you and are able to make that distinction and realize that I'm not saying that the police do absolutely no good . . . they most certainly do. And to answer your question . . . NO . . . there are lots of ways for a cop to be a hero . . . just putting on that uniform and putting yourself in harms way qualifies in my book, as do many of their activities that protect us from harm. Take a look at what I've said . . . it's all about priorities and using the resources that we have for the greatest good . . . if you believe that's happening now, we disagree . . . simple as that.

You're right Josh . . . I recant all my comments . . . can we all hold hands and sing Coombya now?

as someone whos greatest dream is to become a city of winnipeg police officer, i think that cops get a rough time. ya'll are sayin that tickets just cost the tax payers more. but tickets arent there so much to support the police financialy, although they do help. tickets are there because money is something everyone values, money is a big time stopper for people, what i meen by that is people dont speed, or speed excesivly. im not talking about 5 over, im sayin doing 100mph on a surface street, if there was no consiquence people wouldnt care....what if instead of ticketing you for lack of light covers or mudflaps or bumper hieght. they just took your license for say two weeks....and if you were ten over the limit, thats a month. i bet you would rather pay the money then. think about it, you dont try and drive through 8 feet of water because you know how much it would cost you, damage to your jeep. well tickets are there to give a monitary value to breaking the traffic laws

I guess I'm pretty fortunate living in SB County. Unless you are a real A-hole or have a totally crappy attitude, the Sheriff deputies rarely write fix-it or BS tickets. They may just give you a warning. They don't want to waste time in court for trivial stuff.

Now the CHP here in the desert, that's a totally different story. They love writing tickets and don't no the meaning of "warning". This reminds me, I better get my truck windshield replaced before I get a ticket
