  • My name is not "Boss"

Where did this come from? I've been called "Boss" several times today... and not by my employees. Usually store clerks, fast food guys, bank managers. What's up with this? Do I look like their boss? If we are not friends or at least acquaintences, my name is "Sir" if you do not know my name. I know this, I follow the rules of good manners. I would never call a stranger "Boss" or "Brother" or "Chief". When I get a "Thanks Boss", I want to respond with "You're welcome Employee" or something equally as appropriate, but I don't... manners.

Somebody piss in your Cheerios this morning Shadly? I get called boss on occassion, and usually like it. Perhaps if you switched form Sucidal Tendencies and put something like Bob Marley or something a bit less angry in your IPOD, you would avoid such frustrations!!!

Ha! I don't know, maybe it's the way I perceive it. To me it sounds disrespectful. Kinda like calling an Arab guy "Habib" or a Mexican guy "Pancho".

I have been listening to Fear Factory today so maybe that has something to do with it.:haha: I'll switch to Grateful Dead.

If you can do anything but smile while listening to Mexicali Blues, then you should seek professional help.

I've noticed that recently, ONLY among friends, I've been saying "Boss" a lot. But it's a 'Cool Hand Luke' phase I think.

Just as an example, the other day someone asked me, "Can you pick that box up for me and put it in the storage can".

My reply was, <insert chain gang loud voice here> "Pickin it up Boss!"...

            ..."a'right pick it up"....

"Puttin it in the [can] Boss!!!"

            ..."put it in the can"...

It's my understanding that "boss" is prison slang. Funny how prison crap gets absorbed into our culture.

most people relate "Boss" to someone being in charge. the name "Boss" began in the prison system as a term the convicts called the gaurds. Boss stands for "Sorry son of a Bit$h" backwards.
