Wait for next year. You're gonna wanna be there for the first couple weeks to help her out and to enjoy your new blessing

Youre wife is going to need you there. Child birth is difficult work. Your wife needs time to recover. The first week is particularly hard.

Mojave Road has been there for over a hundred years, and will be there next year as well.

Id be livid if you were my husband and were planning on going a week after the baby was born.

      Nuff Said.

Tell your wife you'd like to go but won't if you're needed around the house. I'd assume you've been waiting on her hand and foot throughout the pregnancy, right? She may actually want to get rid of you for a little while.

As a father that wasn't able to be with my wife for the first week the baby was born [work pulled me away and I'll never forgive myself]... STAY HOME. Your first duty is to your family (as I'm sure you know) and the Mojave Trail will always be there. The baby's bonding begins right after birth.

And I'll be honest with you although I don't mean to offend you: If I were one of your buddies going on the trip and I saw you out on the trail right after your child is born...I'd lose a little respect for you. If the Marines has taught me anything over the last 20 years...it's that family comes first above all else.

Obviously your first child (why else the question!?)! Stay at home. My wife was great, all went well, I could have gone on a trip the day she came home from the hospital, but I WANTED to stay. Nothing beats the bonding with your new child!

Another word of advice...if you have medical insurance (I hope!) speak to them now about an extra night at the hospital for your wife...even with an easy delivery (the 1st one never is), it will pay dividends to your wifes (and your) happy recovery. I learned that if it is pre-planned, they are usually willing...but not so if you ask the last minute.

              Congrats BTW.

Congrats! My wife is expecting too, and I'm not about to go wheeling within a month of the birth, let alone a week!!! I know Jeep runs in all of our blood, but real family is more important.

When my wife was pregnant, she told me that in the last month, no hiking/backpacking/climbing trips (pre-Jeep times). 31 days out, I was telling her good-bye for my last hike till the baby came...then she started not feeling well. 2 hours later, out popped the little one. LUCKY for me, I didn't have those "last month jitters", cuz my baby came exactly 1 month early.

Wow! That's a crazy story! That's one of the reasons the baby shower is going to be more than 1 month ahead of time...

DONT go. The only thing you need to say to her is that you wouldnt even consider going. You want to go next year when she can go. That is unless your ok with giving up sex.
