  • Thursday 3-17-11 OAUSA Net

I will be the net controller this Thursday 3-17-11 for the OAUSA net at 7:30pm PST on the Keller Peak Repeater @ 146.385+ PL: 146.2

The topic will be "Tread Lightly!"

I would really appreciate hearing some familiar MJR call signs on Thursday

I'll try my best to check in! Even with the 5 watt HT, I can hit Keller Peak from my house. I might not be home at the start of the net, so I'll check in as soon as I'm home and/or remember.

I don't know how it works but the Keller Peak repeater now has IRLP. You can go to the IRLP website and view the details of the Keller Peak IRLP - www.IRLP.net. KRPA is node ID #3216.

I may drive to where I can access it. Just a couple of miles from my home and It comes in clear.

Your HT has DTMF too, you can connect. Dial VFO to 449.300- PL100.0, then DTMF "3216" which is the IRLP node number for Keller Peak's KE6TGZ. Simply follow the guidelines of announcing, connecting, etc. and you'll be good to go: http://www.irlp.net/guidelines.html

We are visiting a jeweler to get the wifey's wedding ring worked on, so we'll see if I get the chance to check in to the net. I'll certainly try.

The net was one of the better ones on OAUSA. Doug did a great job as net control and presented lots of good info about Tread Lightly. Scott KJ6COB got "doubled" twice but checked in on his third try. Despite Doug's prompting, there were not very many questions or comments over the air about Tread Lightly.

I set up Echolink on my desktop. It operates a little different then my iPhone does but the sound quality was much better. It was an interesting net. I was pretty amused by the old codger complaining that he had to pay $5 to enjoy the forest.

                        Scott,
Remember that the "old codger" was enjoying the forest with no or little restrictions when you were wearing diapers. It is very difficult for us older guys to see how much freedom we have lost in the last 30 years. You can bet he never did anything to harm the forest either. You can't see it because you've only been wheeling after the public lands were taken from the public. So be patient with us.

Wish I would have seen this thread sooner. I try to get on that net when I get the chance anyway. Would have been good to hear you out there on the Keller machine Doug...Matt...
