  • Wireless Router Weak Signal Fix

My wife's computer has never gotten a good signal from our wirleless router tied into our satellite internet system. I removed the antennal of the back of her computer and mounted it on a mast above all the electronics in the area of her computer, the monitor, printer, TV, & etc:

Notice the antenna is at a 45 degree angle. This gave the best signal. Our wireless router is mounted on the wall in another room about 5' off the floor.

The signal went from one bar to five bars:

The coax was $3.50 through Amazon.com. It came with a nut and washer so it could be mounted on a circuit board or whatever. The mast is a piece of 1/2" alum angle. Happy wife, happy house.

Hey Screwball, Ummm, the window blinds are plastic, not much good at reflecting RF. I'm intriuged with the vegetable steamer antenna concept. I'll have to mull that one over...

Well Scott, we hams do know the nature of RF and how to maximize it's signal strength!

What is FAP? There's no FIOS or Cable where I live. Up until two months ago it was sattellite or dial-up. Now someone as started a wireless service, but I'm kinda locked into the satellite for a while...
