I have both a Tom Tom and a couple of Garmins. For my use the Garmins win easily.

Garmins are a better off road GPS

The TomTom is a good street unit. If youre looking for something to use off road, stick with Garmin units. They are durable and have good maps. Check out my post in GPS Mapping to get free topos for garmin units.

I have used my Garmin Street Pilot and nuvi in my jeep and have beat the heck out of them both on the trail. Never failed once.
