I have the Map Create 7.0. That's what I recommend. The Freedom maps work too, but if you have the Map Create software, you can browse and look up maps on your computer as well. I don't know if any outside software works with Lowrance, so probably plan on the Map Create 7.0.
    WILL WORK FOR JEEP PARTS!!!

Okay, I have a 540C, and I have just installed MapCreate 7. I have a 1GB SD card ready to use, but I cannot not "register" it, because I don't have the LEI card reader.

Is this true? Is there a work around for this?

If there is no work around, where do you get the card reader? http://www.lei-extras.com/ does not have it, nor does http://www.lowrance.com/en/Products/Accessories/

I'm pretty bummed not to be able to use this thing.

Also, anyone else having issues running MapCreate 7 on Vista?

The newest update allows you to take a jpg picture of the current screen on the GPS and saves it to the memory card. Pretty cool!

            * Production-only changes
            * Includes all features from previous updates, including:

o Added Lowrance HD radar support via serial communications

            o Added Greek language

            o Added Polish language

o Added ability to take a screenshot capture of the display on the unit and save to a card/hard drive – In Screen Snapshot mode, use the power key to capture the screenshot

o Added Navionics Platinum support including 3D view and panoramic photos

o Added support for the Lowrance Broadband Sounder-1

            o Updated language translations

o Improved sonar digital depth tracking in weeds and over bluffs

            o Improved Navionics support

o Changed Map/Sonar/Radar page to be resizeable

o Modified memory card reading functionality

            o Enhanced Navionics support

o Enhanced NauticPath electronic chart support
Other than the screenshot capture and possibly the modified memory card reading functionality, the rest of the update is pretty useless to an offroad vehicle.

The Greek and Polish language might come in handy if you get stuck or break something!
