  • Time to Leave the Nest

This year for some reason the hummingbirds decided on our house for their nest building. This is the third set of hummingbird chicks reared in our backyard in the last few months. The second pair re-used the first pair's nest. This third pair built a new nest about 10 feet away.

No zoom. I used a Nikkor 105 micro lens from about two foot away. I had to stand on my toes to get the shot so they're a little fuzzy. The nest is in the vines on our dog run and they just got used to seeing us and the dogs every day.

It's amazing how quickly they go from hatch-ling to flight.

Im very sure that your aware of it but just to remind, don't get to close to baby birds of any kind because if they catch your scent, the parents will abandon them. Never handle one either. 2 ft probably is good but any closer and your pushing it.
