  • Wierd abberations

    Take a look at this photo of Johnson Valley at Sunset, taken from the top of Jack Hammer. Look in the small valley to the left-central part of the picture. It looks like there is a second sunset going on in there, or maybe a fire lighting up the canyon. But there was no fire. That was not there when I took the pics (8 of them) and all 8 have the same abberation. Any ideas what that is?

    The flash of light you saw in the sky was not a UFO. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus.

      Looks like regular lens flare to me. The flare is the same shape as the light source, so it looks like another ridge but it is really just the bottom edge of the flare in the same shape as the ridge above.

      That would be my best guess by looking at this file.

            I think it is the sun reflecting off that ridge.
            With the light colored rocks, they will catch the sun's rays and glow like that sometimes in a camera.

            It is cool and a very nice shot of the sunset.
