Holy $#!t. I think your test worked. Are you using an extension tube or a true macro lens?

On my 27" monitor, it looks BIG. The spider is bigger than my hand.

Yeah I know. That is the raw image right out of the camera. I didn't think it would upload. It's a huge file. I was using that cheapo little Omron Macro lens I bought a few years back. It was actually worth the money, although it's not as clear as the higher end lenses which I can only look at and drool over....

For the Spider only it was a Tamron 180 macro and for the other two it was a Canon 24-70 L lens.

The Tamron is fairly popular. That's the same one I use. What Canon body do you use? I'm using two: the Rebel XT and the Rebel T1I.

The depth of field is really shallow like a extension tube. Nice shot.

I would have to go back and look at the metadata but I think that was my 20D. I have a 10D, 20D, 40D, 5D and a 1D markII. I had been using mostly the 5D and 40D lately. Now that I am shooting Jeeps on trails I have been using the 40 for its sensor cleaning and the 1D because it is better sealed for dust.

I started out shooting landscape so the 10D, 20D and then 5D are what I used. Then I started shooting high school night football so I switched to the 1D. The 40D was because the 10 and 20 work but the focus, ISO (low light capabilities)and megapixal is better.

I am going to sell the 10 and the 20 and probably the 5 and upgrade to a 5D MII sometime soon I hope.

More info then you asked for... Sorry!

TMI! Not this time. I would like to have the $$$ you've spent on photog equipment. Then i'd go spend it on some for me! I was looking at used 5D on Ebay. Not real comfortable buying camera equipment there; seen too many folks getting ripped off. But anyway, you do some really nice work. I hope to have that talent someday.

I bought the 5D and the 1D Mark II as well as a couple of high end lenses from fredmiranda.com - buy and sell forum. So far (knock on wood) I have had no issues buying from the users there. You have to watch the pricing sometimes but I have found some very quality items at good prices...

Rubikat, I also appreciate the detailed info in your response. I'd love to grab a 5D sometime, but I'm in the sell everything I own phase of the economy right now.

FWIW, I have also had excellent dealings with folks on the POTN forum (Photography On the Net), which is a Canon focused forum, with a lot of talented people on it.

I am sorry to here about you having to sell because of the economy. This is a very hard time right now for alot of people.

I actually saw some of your work and searched through your web photos and loved them. I am jealous at some the places you have been for photos and would love to do a photo 4 wheel trip sometime. It really is a different trip when the light calls the photographer to set up immediatly.

I hope everything works out for you and if you ever want to take a day or weekend trip with photography in the mix I am in!
