You will find many opinions about the different brands of parts. I looked for 4 months before buying a T&T long arm kit.
Im new to xj's also and found this book to be very good. Other then the factory service books this is about the only other xj book I would need. You will find lots of opinions about all this lift stuff but just have patience and educate yourself first. Dont jump in and buy anything at first. Its like doing any project, figure out what the real cost is going to be. A 5.5 long arm kit, slip yoke kit/shaft, shocks, 33 in tires, bpe's, body stiffeners, disco's .....hummmmmmm....I think thats about $4500.00 The 2000 xj was only $6000.

Stay away from rough coutry, its junk and rides like hell. Unless your going Long arm go Rubicon express. This kit is full leaf packs http://www.jeepinoutfitters.com/scri...?idproduct=115
and this kit is add a leaf http://www.jeepinoutfitters.com/scri...?idproduct=120 You make the call in which fits you better but stick with RE. Note that RE kits do sit a little higher then they say, so you will be at about 4 inchs till it settles to a decent 3.5" Both kits give you the option to upgrade shocks to Old Man Emu and JKS disconnects.
At 3.5" chances are you are going to need an SYE. If you dont want to spend the money on full kit, go with a RE hack N tap. http://www.jeepinoutfitters.com/scri...?idproduct=153
What year is your XJ and what TC do you have.

3 inch rough country
Hey, new to this site too. I recently bought a 95 xj sport for an off road toy. I threw on a Rough Country 3'' lift. Ive only taken it on miller jeep trail and poked around holcolmb valley a little. I also drive it 30 miles to work and back a day. So far, I have no problem with the lift. The lift is cheap, and no complaints. I guess ill know more down the road and after more aggressive trails.
