  • Old Man Emu Suspension

Just wondered.. does anyone have an opinion on Old Man Emu Springs?? I was looking at a custom made kit that included them for a pretty reasonable price for my WJ... Would like to know if anyone knows anything about quality? Ride? Thanks in advance

MaddMike just did an OME lift on his Rubi. Im not sure about the springs but overall ive always heard theyre a pretty good company.

I've heard nothing but praise for the OME suspension. I'll be getting that next year, so I can tell you first hand then, but for now, I can just say that members on another jeep forum swear by OME stuff...

Hey Materdaddy I dunno what your lookin for in your lift, or if you checked this place out before, but I figured I'd pass this along to you.. This seems to be a pretty decent price for what your getting.

Thanks, that looks slightly cheaper than the kits at DPGOffroad. The ones at DPG come with OME nitro-charged shocks though. Decisions decisions! Oh well, that's not until next year that I can afford (talk the fiance, then wife, into)... I'll probably come up with 3 new places to look by then!

HE HE guess thats a perk to being the wife .. Thats how it goes though, I come up with three new places to look a week lol... but if you're gonna go broke you might as well make it as slow as possible... the cheaper you can find it the better

although i have nothing to compare it to, my OME lift rides incredibly well on the street better than i did with the stock height and stock springs/shocks and i'm 2.5" higher now. super comfortable for long drives which in a TJ is a pretty tall order.

i would NOT recommend replacing your springs and leaving the shocks, as a majority of my ride improvement seems to be coming from the gas shock upgrade. you may also discover that the spring rates for the existing shocks do not match those for the OME springs which could make for some strange handling, especially if you do a lot of on-road driving.

not sure about the WJ, but on the TJ you can select stiffer or looser spring and shock combos. i selected heavy duty all the way around since i will be trucking parts, tools, and gear during off-road trips, but for mostly street use i'd likely recommend the softer ones. with no weight in the vehicle, it actually doesn't ride quite as nice as fully loaded (REALLY stiff), although they're not fully broken in yet.

the reps are also very knowledgeable. give them a call and speak with them directly and they'll help you out.

you'll also find that the OME kits are 30% more expensive than mst other springs and shocks. there is a reason for this and you wil find out why if you buy them.

and BTW allen I don't have a rubi...i just wheel like i do

              cheers,
              03 TJ. It'll go 65mph...can't complain.

                      WJ What to do

Iv'e got a 2000 WJ V8 4WD auto and I can't find a lift for this thing! and its got constant velocity joints allover, so I know I'm gonna have to ditch those.

I allready have a torn boot in front.

I dunno what this thing is equipt with, I bought it used and so any info would be great...

what kinda rear axle does it have? it looks like a mopar or something. its not a 44...

is the front axle a dana 30?

what the heck transfer case am I dealing with, it has some kinda constant velocity drives as well...

I'm starting to realize WHY nobody really lifts these things yet, but it has gotta get a lift and 33's and soon.

                      any help will be appreciated...

Hey... I can't answer anything specifically ( I have a 6 cylinder Laredo).. but I can give u some good sites to check out.

                        got all the technical info

Fishpoet led me to this forum

This is the lift kit I'm looking at buying now.. I have a 2 in SkyJacker lift (spacers which they don't sell anymore and it SUCKS.. rides like a log wagon) and 265/75R16 now and haven't had any real problems besides I've got some bad ball joints now but I don't do any major off- roading either.. I know that TeraFLex makes a 4" lift for it too. Hope this helps

OMG !!!! there is just too much info to process here ! this is really awesome ... I looked at the lift you are thinking on using and it looks easy and inexspensive, but I couldn't find what size tires it will allow you to run. I found a lift by RockKrawler that looks like it has alot more beef, of course its gonna co$t alot more dough. I am really concerned about the front end joints, and I think that the first thing I will do is to replace the front axles with u-joint type axles, and then the front driveshaft, and then the rear... sized with the lift in mind. I would like to run 33" MTR's on this bad boy.

Glad to pass on the info. I spent weeks to find all the stuff I've found. I hafta to agree on changin the axles and driveshaft. It might cost some money but if you do any serious off-roading it'll save u money in the long run everythings so cheaply made today. I dont imagine you could run 33's on a 3.5" lift my tires are a lil over 31" tall and I had to do a lil trimming to fit them on a 2" lift. But I don't do any rock crawling (not many rocks to crawl in Illinois) and I don't wanna hafta to use a step ladder to get in it ( I'm 5'2" lol) so I don't need anything real tall. Here is another good informational article I found tonite

Keep me posted on your progress.. I can never get to much info lol.. it usually comes in handy. Thanks
