  • drag link/sway bar issues

alright well i have been asking all around and have gotten great feedback so I continue the question to you guys. when i turn right my drag link rubs on the bottom of my sway bar link, upper adjustables are tightened up all the way and im pretty sure nothing is bent. should i just cut off sway bar brackets and weld on new longer ones to clear the drag link? some are telling me just to buy curries set up, thats a great buy for an upgrade but this is a fix not an upgrade and dont have money for that right now.

This will usually happen with some lifted jeeps when the suspension is drooped.

I have never seen it happen on the ground. It looks to me like you upper control arms need to be shortened, a lot (i.e. the pinion is rotated to far.) But without looking at the whole thing it is hard to say. But looking at the way your sping is sitting in the cup, it does look like the top of the axles is rotated forward quite a bit.

I'd say remove the swaybar...then trim the bottom side...IDK just a guess...that or just remove the sway bar.

This happens to mine and I have the Currie set-up, it helped a little. You need to add washers to the steering stops and I found if I adjusted the uppers to their shortest it got worst or even closer. By rotating the axle back you end up bringing the draglink/tie-rod closer to the axle. Now I run w/uppers adjusted out 5 to 7 full turns out (maybe 1/2" of threads showing) and added two washers to the stops on both sides. It still comes very close and now I need to change the zerk fitting to a 90 degree, not that it hits but it will be the first thing to hit.

ok woa woa woa, i think this is the answer i have been looking for. if you could also post some pics that would help. but yes, you said adjust the uppers, meaning lengthen them right? like 7 turns you said? i thought everyone was saying make them as short as possible? well if thats the fix then im stoked cuz thats no biggy!!! here are some shots from today

Yes. I've had mine at various adjustment including all the way in or shortest. I find my Jeep to perform best on the road with them out, I really need to get it on a rack and check the angles but until then their about 5 or so full turns out, one side may be slightly more. Give it a try, I don't think there's a perfect science here.
I also ended up changing out the RE trackbar for the Currie TB but I had to get the JeepSpeed version since I drilled out the hole for the RE TB.

                Miguelito,
I know you been fighting this for a long time, i think we talked about it last year. I had the exact same problem, even with the pinion angle set correctly. The only thing that fixed it was the currie hd steering. even with the currie there is just a tiny bit of rubbing, but nothing like before.

If you have the ability to do it, cut them off and reweld it in a better place. That way its done with.

Miguelito- You either need to take the advice from folks that have fixed this issue without cutting and hacking a damn thing or shut up about it.

                  http://jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=246333

If you don't like the answers you get, then quit asking and just live with it or don't but quit with the questions about the same damn issue on every board. I have explained to you what the issue is no less than 3 times and here you are asking again.

What don't you like about the correct advice you've been given?

Tell you what, you're in Ventura, get your a$$ down to South OC and I'll fix it for you. It will be done right, your problem will go away and all will be good, and I won't have to see the same question asked over and over again.
