  • Ford Shock Towers

Was not sure where to post this...

Whats a good price for the Ford Shock Towers everyone seems to use when outboarding their rear shocks? I have found $29.99 a pair and that sounds more than reasonable but just wanted to check.

    Thanks
    Michael

I used the Ford towers at the front of my YJ. The result is very strong but it took a lot of work, especially because I installed Fox Shox which do not fit in the tower.

At the rear I used hoops from all pro offroad. Soooo much easier. Next time I would use hoops at the front as well.

E5TZ18183A is the part number I am looking at. Thanks for the price check everyone. Actually looks like the dealer will be the best place.

Aston, what problems did you have? I am getting everything together to do the Fox Shocks to my TJ.

            OK, here's the prob:

The top of the shock interferes with the tower.

I cut the tower, added tabs then re-drilled the mtg hole.

It was still a tight squeeze.

I feel stupid now (okay more than normal) because as soon as I saw the pics, I remembered your thread about it.

I'll talk to the person thats going to be doing the welding and see how he wants to proceed.

              Thanks, aston.

Are you going to put the shocks on the outside of the frame? And if so what do you gain by doing this? I haven't heard fo this being done and I am just curious of why you would do this.

As I am told, outboarding the rears gives better stability.

My Rubi with the Nth System relocates the rears outboard. Bolt on upper brackets and weld on lower shock mounts......It works really well.....B.J.

Does it get in the way of the tire or limit flex?

it is nothing you need to do on a yj.
it is a tj mod in most cases to outboard the shocks on the rear frame.

Never mind. I just went to their web site and ckecked it out. I guess it wouldn't work on yj because of the leaf springs.
