  • JK: Metalcloak Control arms (lower)

Does anyone have any experience or feedback on these Metalcloak control arms. I'm mostly concerned on how well or long they will hold up.

Metalcloak says they've only been out for about 2 years and they haven't had any bad issues with them.

Link to the CA's and a comparison test.

I've heard the joints are made of some special compound and are fully rebuildable...

I'm sure. But bonded special material is the same. If it tears loose from the metal the joint becomes extremely unstable. Just not a fan of that type of joint. Its the same technology that engine and transmission mounts are made with, and they only take lateral movement. CA joints take full range of motion in every axis. Hey, if they prove themselves out over the next few years I'll get on the band wagon. Till then it's just me and my Johnny Joints

Mike, you might want to look at this Currie page for what you are looking for:

Some folks love the metal cloack stuff, I am with the rest of the gang Currie JJ's are the bomb. They are durable, wear extremely well and the iinserts are pretty cheap and they are easy to rebuilt. If the metal cloak joints prove to be durable they should fit inside Currie Jj's since they are a cartridge style joint

The comparison test is dramatic, but I'm still not convinced. Nothing wrong with more flex but I don't have an issue with what I have now and I use proven technology. On the other hand, if they want to give me a full set to "test" on my rig, I'd be more than willing

My biggest concern is how long the rubber will hold up. Granted they are re-buildable. Another consideration is that they are rubber and might offer less road noise on the highway.

How well do the JJ's isolate road noise?

These are for the JK and won't see too much extreme use......well maybe they will...

I'm not a good judge of that since I run with the top off almost exclusively. But I really don't think the JJs transfer any more road noise than the old factory bushings did.

Unlike my BFAM, I do run with the top on most of the time. I can say that JJ's are no different than bushings for sound as long as you grease them properly. Unfortunately, I can't say for the Metal Cloak version.

I can say that I did a bit of research before I invested in JJ's. Metal Clock was on the list but I tapped out after doing some research. I'm just not a "Bleeding Edge" technology kind of guy.

Thanks for the input - my other concern about the Currie LCA's is will they have a binding point at full articulation with a ...a' hum... short arm set up. The front especially tucks way under at full articulation.
