  • TJ: Stock Bolt Sizes

Does anybody have a list of the stock bolt sizes for a TJ?

I'm making a small drive to a hardware store that is likely to have them and I'd like to have spares for the tool bag.

Specifically I'm looking for all 8 control arm bolt sizes at both ends.

Front Uppers (Axle Side) - ???
Front Uppers (Frame Side) - ???
Front Lowers (Axle Side) - ???
Front Lowers (Frame Side) - ???

Rear Uppers (Axle Side) - ???
Rear Uppers (Frame Side) - ???
Rear Lowers (Axle Side) - ???
Rear Lowers (Frame Side) - ???

Front Track Bar (Frame) - ???
Front Track Bar (Axle) - ???
Rear Track Bar (Frame) - ???
Rear Track Bar (Axle) - ???

(Nevermind the fact that I have RE track bars with different bolt sizes, I want stock bolt sizes on that too. The list of stock hardware in a searchable form will be good for others as well).

I imagine they're all 1/2 inch diameter every bolt in my suspension is 1/2 inch but I got rod of every stupid torx bolt and I have grade 8 bolts now

the aftermarket arms use 7/16 fine thread bolts for the uppers and 9/16 or 14 mm bolts for the lowers for lengths get a tape measure and measure what you need.
I doublt you will break a grade 8 lower control arm bolt anytime soon, just use loctite when you assemble stuff and it will not come loose

Yeah, probably unlikely to break, but I like to have spares, especially if it's cheap, and they don't take up much room. Thanks for the info on those...

I found the detailed answer. I have an exploded view diagram (in PDF) that I found a long time ago that has everything for my 1997 TJ. Here's what I found:

Front Uppers (Axle Side) - M10x1.50x75.00 (Hex Flange Nut)
Front Uppers (Frame Side) - M10x1.50x78.20 (Hex Flange Lock Nut)
Front Lowers (Axle Side) - M14x2.0x111.6 (Cam Bolt) (M14 washer & Hex Nut)
Front Lowers (Frame Side) - M14x2.0x105.00 (Hex Flange Lock Nut)

Rear Uppers (Axle Side) - M10x1.50x78.20 (Hex Flange Lock Nut)
Rear Uppers (Frame Side) - M10x1.50x78.20 (Hex Flange Lock Nut)
Rear Lowers (Axle Side) - M14x2.0x105.0 (Hex Flange Nut)
Rear Lowers (Frame Side) - M14x2.0x105.0 (Hex Flange Nut)

Front Track Bar (Axle) - M10x1.75x75.00 Truss Head (Nut)
Front Track Bar (Frame) - N/A (tre-like nut built into the stock one that requires a castle nut & cotter pin)
Rear Track Bar (Frame) - M12x1.75x80 (Hex Flange Lock Nut)
Rear Track Bar (Axle) - M12x1.75x80 (Hex Flange Lock Nut (on a tab))
