i was curios to know how the hell u guys are fitting 35 inch tires on a 4 or 4.5 inch lift. am i missing something here or what? even 6 inch lift specs call for 33 inch tires with minor fender trimming. someone school me please.

What lifts are you looking at? A 6" lift should clear 37s! Ideally the tires should not rub anywhere at any point when your Jeep is flexing, and that's why they say 33" tires. But anyone who has a lift and 35s will tell you that a little rubbing is inevitable; it's the price we pay for more ground clearance. I had an RE 4.5 with 35s for four years; the rear tires rubbed inside the rear fender wells at full up travel, and the front tires rubbed a little on the LCAs at full turn, but that is it. Never caused any trouble. Having said that, you need to pay close attention to the clearance of your tires to make sure there is no major interference; if there is, make adjustments as needed. You may need taller shocks, high fenders, or maybe do some trimming of sheet metal. There is almost always a trade off with these things. But if you want more ground clearance, 35" tires are one way to go.

bumpstops. you have to get the right stops to limit the travel so that the 35's don't rub. it sucks to give up articulation, but without sheetmetal trimming, thats the way to go. I chose to cut, so I run 35's with a 4" on my YJ and the only thing that rubs are the springs in the front at lock. :2:

For an XJ a sawzall is your friend, that and longer bumpstops

Big difference between an XJ and a TJ. An altogether different animal is the JK which can fit much larger tires out of the box. The older XJs can accomadate larger tires than the newer ones. I also recommend NAXJA for tech articles and the sawzall. d

On my YJ I had a 4" lift and 33" and they rubbed bad. Had to do a 2" body lift to cure it and I trimmed the plastic on the fender. Now all is good.

yeah ill wait to i run the rubber off my 32s first. theyre brandnew so might as well use them. just was wondering because they look a little big for my 4.5 lift.

When I bought my first XJ it came with a 32's and a cRustys 4" lift. Hardly rubbed at all with no trimming.

ok back on this subject i took of the stock flares and was going to hack away my question for the xj guys who have done this is how far do u cut. if u cut that little lip thats there all the way off then u cut off the pinch weld that closes off the fender well. if any of u guys have a pic or two u can post that would be cool. i originally wanted to put the bush wacker flares on there but those things are way too much. u guys probably already know this but im refering to the rear.

We can do cheap. I am good with that. We can go to Home Depot or if Lowes is your flavor and get 4" drain pipe. It comes in black. Cut it in half and screw (bolt is you prefer) it to the fender and you will have bushwackers for cheap!
