I used to take the stock tie rods, and drag links, cut them in half, and insert a harden steel solid rod inside of them and weld them back together. Never had one break. Just an idea, Kevin.

I got my front set up from Rusty's.com for about $200.00 for my 91 YJ

Well, I dropped off the YJ today at my mechanics house for the front end work. Ken (www.thejeepguyonline.com) is fab-ing a front tie rod / drag link setup for me tomarrow. He just finished an awesome Dana44 front end on his TJ, Big tie rods, Trussed axle tubes, custom mounting flanges, ect... This looks as good as I've seen from any of the after market shops! Here is a couple before shots, with after shots coming tomarrow.

                Mitch

                Before - note bent tie-rod

                1 1/2" dia. tubes 3/8" thick

                1 Ton rod ends

Here's a picture of Kens new front end and axle

                  Hey Ray,

Didn't mean to steal the thread. What did you end up doing on the tie rod? My tie rod / drag link is done and I'm ready to wheel Sunday.

That's a great looking setup. That stabilizer bracket is sick! I'm shopping for a new steering setup myself. I have a nasty steering flop issue with my stock style stuff. I'm sort of torn between the Rusty's kit that mounts the drag link on top of the tie rod or one of those 1-ton kits that use the poly spacer at the passenger side TRE. Is that Ken guy pretty reasonable price-wise?

                          Shad,

The front end work turned out great. I've tweaked around the rocks and it seems so secure and firm. I had someone show me what I thought was steering sloop, and it was my cheesy stock rod bending back and forth when I cranked the wheel. Thats gone now. Ken is very reasonable price wise, does great work, but mainly works on Jeeps on Sunday. That is ok for me cause I live close.
