  • U-Joint Lube?

So I replaced the front left U-joint at camp last month - after hearing new clickyclunk running Holcomb Creek - and didn't add any lube. This is a Spicer 760 without zert fitting. the box had no directions. Should I have hand filled the cross member and caps with lube? I run about 300 miles since then and all is quiet ... so far.

    thanks for your comments.

It is widely reported that U/Js fail because of insufficient lubrication.

I regularly use an EP (extreme pressure) grease in all U/Js.

Some U/Js have zerks in the cross, others in one end cap. I have not come across a U/J with neither, but I'm sure they exist.

I would get U/Js with the zerk in the cap and keep the ones you have as spares.

btw I plug the zerk hole with a 1/4-20 (I think) cap screw and only install the zerk when actually greasing.
