  • Stop lights/Flashers/Turn Signals

    Hey,
Toss this around and tell me what I'm missing.

Installed those LED stop lights, LiteDots from Off Road Only, a few months back. Worked fine, installation was a breeze and everything worked great, very cool looking. One last thing I had to do, per their instuctions, was replace the flasher unit for one made to handle the LED's, slower flash rate. No biggie, it said some where which one to get and even the guy at the NAPA store looked it up and yep, thats the one you need, EP27 I think it is. It took me a few weeks to get around to that but never the less, I changed it and everything worked great.
Now, today I had to make a stop in traffic so I pulled over and turned on the hazard/4-way flasher. Heard a slight buzz, like the sound a relay makes if it can't close and no lights. Hmm, no buggie, must have popped a fuse. NOPE, checked them all and get current thru them all. No turn signals, no stop lights, no flashers, nothing, natta, zip! Head lights work.

Any ideas? This is forcing me to cancel a trip this weekend and having to take it back to dealer to do under warrentee would blow......

    Multi-function switch

    John,

The only thing that all of those circuits have in common is the turn signal switch (the FSM calls it the "multifunction switch"). When you replaced the stock taillight assembly with your LEDs, did you replace the backup lights? If so, the backup light circuit does not go through the multifunction switch, and it should still work.

It is possible that the flasher could not handle the extra load of the 4-way hazard lights, and it failed, which in turn may have caused the multifunction switch to fail.
If you don't like the way I drive, stay out of the bushes!

      Multifuction switch

Russ, thanks for your input, I haven't tried the reverse lights but the tail/running lights work. The backup lights are intigrated within the tailight assembly.
I called the manufacture, Off Road Only, and spoke with them this morning and they say thay have been getting a lot of calls on this. He said that most of those having the same issue is because of the flasher unit they are replacing the OEM one with is not up to the task and causes a overload and then fuse blows. I checked the fuses which I thought would be the one, anything that said "light" on it, and all appeared ok. The gentleman I spoke to at Off Road Only said I needed to use the OEM flasher that has been modified per www.mesa4x4.com website and then locate a fuse marked "MF" and check it. He seemed pretty sure that is why I can't get voltage to the switch. We'll see what happens tonight......thanks again.

        We got lights......

.....as it turns out the boys at Off Road Only where absolutely correct! It was a burnt fuse in the Power Distribution Center under the hood. There are mini fuses located within that panel and one of them is marked MF SW which is the power to the Multi-Function Switch located next to the flasher relay behind the steering wheel....whew, glad that is done!
I will still be making that flasher modification so the flasher will handle all four lights.....I'll post my results here.
