Yes an no. If you're ever in a situation where you'd need a snorkel, the air intake has to be removed, otherwise they are usually a halfway OK investment in my opinion. Typically better gas mileage, and it allows your motor to breath a little better. Meaning a little more horsepower. It's usually not a whole lot, but with a 62mm throttle body, and the intake it can add some pep to an old motor, or add a little more beef to the newer ones. Matching an intake with a good exaust will allow your motor to pull in air, and put the exaust back out, allowign it to breath a lot better than stock, making it peppier. I jsut don't know if the exaust upgrades will help your gas mileage.WTF Mate?

I notice a difference with my intake when its cold, because i havent built myself a cold air box to isolate it from the engine heat, once the bay gets hot then it feels like the power i get from it drops down. but its always said that its worth while even if its just to make the engine breath better.|90 XJ|4.0|AX-15|NP231|RE H&T|TnT Y-Link|RE Coils|BOR Leaves|ACOS|D30/Aussie|8.8/ARB|35" Kevlar MTRs|Custom Exo,Sliders,Bumpers|

*sigh* That article is using the stock air box. I'm talking about Cold Air Intake Systems. Using a Conical Filter and Tubing. And yeah, you can MAKE a CAI at autozone...which I will probably end up doing.WTF Mate?

have a look at this one. imagine, if the filters in this testing were as unsatisfactory being in a box, what theie inefficiency would be if they were completely exposed to the dirt.
i have been through the conical filters, and all that jazz... i am back to th stock type box, and am quite content with it.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I experienced it myself. I couldn't believe how thick the dust was in the crossover pipe downstream of the well-oiled K&N filter. I'm back to the stock filter & housing. There is still dust getting through, but nothing like it was with the K&N.
Frankly, I didn't notice any power improvements with the K&N, either. But my jeep is not some heavy-breathing, high-reving performance pavement-bound beast that the K&N was designed for.

I am running the Turbo City dual air intake with conical type filters and outerwears. I do not find any dust downstream in my air intake tubes. There is not much improvement in horsepower yet. There will be more after I fix the exhaust problems. The main reason for the intake was to use the space the stock intake box took for other applications. 2nd battery and air compressor.Over 2500 hours donated to the San Bernardino National Forest.
