  • Optima battery problem

I have a 2 battery system on my TJ , the "a" battery runs the chassis, lights, starter , all the normal stuff. The "b" battery runs the winch. The batteries are linked electrically through some kind of solenoid deal.

Anyways the "b" winch battery is not charging. I took it out put it on the charger it now reads 15.4 volts. A new Optima reads the same.

The old battery will not run the winch, it drops to 5.5 volts under load, not even a load really, it wont even click the winch solenioid.

The new Otima runs the winch and the volage remains above 15 volts.

Testing shows the old battery good but it dies under any load. Toss it?

Did your wench work before and it just started this problem? If thats the case it seems like the wiring of the batteries is wrong... the transfer from the alt. to the wench battery isnt right somewhere.
