  • Dana 30 Drum to disc brake swap?

I have an aussie locker on order that whould be here this week, and I was thinking about swapping out the front drums for discs. Does anyone have any idea on how hard this is an what is needed to do it? Thanks for all the help!

I swapped a set of 1975 axles under my '83 CJ5 last year and upgraded to a set of front discs off a 1978 CJ5.I had to swap everything from the knuckle/balljoints out.Knuckle, caliper mount, spindle, rotor and then hubs.I changed to longer brake hoses at the same time. Was pretty straight foward and easy swap.Somewhere around 1980 Jeep went to 10" rotors so if you can get the earlier ones you'll have the 11" rotors.

The master cylinder may be an issue: generally a caliper requires greater fluid displacement than a wheel cylinder.

Good point Aston.I swapped early axles into a later CJ that had 10" disc brakes. You are correct that he will need a new master cylinder and the proportioning valve may be different also.
