Vehicles have an evap control system to control the amount of pollution that is exhausted by the engine. That error code means your system has developed a leak. You won't pass smog until it's fixed. Also, have you noticed driveability problems? If it's causing your air/fuel mixture to run rich during idle, you'll burn more gas. Or the reverse. If you have a 2003, are you still under the 3yr/36000mile warranty?

      yep, i think it's a 7/70k

so just take it into the dealership and bitch at them till they fix it?

also i just remembered i accidently have been driving with my gas cap off for about 100 miles (DOH!!!)

would that contribute to the problem?

Sounds to me like the large leak is the gas cap being off. The new gas caps aren't just to keep the gas in the tank but are part of the evaporative system. It, the check engine light, can take a long time to go out after you put the cap back on. Put the cap back on and then pull the negative cable. You will reset the computer and clear the code. Then reset the trip meter for fun and see if the code comes back and how quickly.

As you have been told you should be good to go. Repost if that doesn't fix the prob.
