  • Early 70's CJ5 hardtop on later CJ5

If I'm correct on this I can put an early 70's metal hardtop on a 1983 CJ5 by installing a '69-'75 windshield frame.Different glass I think.Does the early windshield frame use a different wiper system? Can I use my later dash pad with the early frame?Anyone done this?Koenig?Myers?

I picked up a Meyers metal hardtop off of a 1973 CJ5 on E-Bay for a whopping $38.99.I went and picked it up today. The main top is very restorable but the doors are really ROUGH.If anyone stumples across any parts for these tops(even little brackets) please let me know.I plan to photograph the restoration of this top over the next several months. When complete I will either use it on my Jeep or mount it on my brothers '61 CJ5.

I have researched a little and have found that Meyers made metal hardtops through 1979.the '76-'79 should be a bolt on for my '83.The top I have should be a bolt on for my brothers '61 CJ5.I am going to check out wether the top will bolt to my tub with an early windsheild frame.Any one have any door handles for one of these?

Well, this is interesting. I have been looking for this thread for a month! I recently bought a 75 CJ-5 and I am trying to sell the Myers Top that came with it. It is near perfect condition. I was told it would not fit on a 76 or later... but you say it is possible? Can you give me more info?

I have collected quite a few Meyers parts over the last couple of months. Many NOS pieces that were in dealer close out sales.I have yet to find a '76-up Meyers top for sale local.I'm still interested in finding out myself what Meyers changed for the top to work on a later CJ5.Heres a link to a later syle top that was on a Jeep on E-bay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT As you can see the topp is different in the front mounting area and the windsheild mounting plates are obviously different for the windsheild frame design change.

In looking at the glass and the bolts on that Ebay link... i bet that is a different windshield frame. It looks like the top bolts to the sides of that windshield frame. On my 75, there are brackets that bolt to the windshield frame and then the cab only bolts to the top of the windshield and slides over the brackets. I can send a pic... if you want to look at it.
