so I've been looking online for FC wire meant to be used with additional shielding gas, and I only seem to be finding .045 wire. Thickest I've used is .035, is .045 going to be problematic on 110 power?

Lincoln Outershield comes in .035. I wouldn't bother with anything larger than that at this point. Would probably work like crap with 110.
