  • Bump steer....Help needed

My buddy got a 2000 WJ that had a 4inch lift on 33's and had been pretty used and abused. The jeep was by the beach and was really rusty so he decided to put a new lift on. We installed a new rough country 4inch lift that came with a new track bar and a new steering stabilizer but he is now getting really bad bump steer. I have not had to deal with this on my JK (thankfully) so I do not know where to start. He got an alignment hoping it would help but it did not.

Does anybody have any ideas on how to fix bump steer? Any info or help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Take a picture of the steering and post it. Straight on and if needed use a flash to light it up. Without seeing the angles all anyone can do is guess. Odds are the drag link and track bar don't line up properly.

If the track bar and drag link aren't parallel, you'll get bump steer. Was either a track bar relocation bracket installed, or a drop pitman arm installed for either of the lifts?

Parallel and equal length so the travel arcs stay the same.

Thanks everyone. There was already a drop pitman arm installed and he did not install the track bar drop bracket. Once we did that it went away.

It would have been better to replace the dropped Pitman arm with the factory OE Pitman arm than to have installed the drop bracket for the track bar.
