  • body lift question

When installing a 3" body lift on a TJ, do you leave the rubber spacer below and above the mount then put the 3" spacer on top of the rubber? I have a picture but not sure how to post it...sorry

Probably one of the very worst modifications you can do to a TJ is to install a 3" body lift. Really. They cause way more problems, especially getting everything working afterwards, than they are worth. The transmission shifter lever will need to be bent using heat, the transfer case shifter mount will need a special adapter bracket because the two sides of the mount (on the body and on the transfer case) will be 3" off-level, the fuel lines will need to be extended, etc. Not only that but experienced Jeepers will see a Jeep with a 3" body lift and know the owner was either talked into it without knowing better, or just assume he isn't experienced enough to know not to install one.

It is actually easier and far better to instead install a 3" suspension lift which causes far fewer problems. If you just need 3" total, a 1" body lift like from Performance Accessories combined with a 2" suspension lift will work well together and not cause problems.

The LAST thing you want is a 3" body lift. Trust me.

      Wow Gerry...
I'm not a fan of body lifts, but guess what? It ain't my jeep. You do what you want with it. I take it you didn't get install instructions with the kit. Look on their website; probably a download there. But think the top stock bushing goes away. Thats how I've seen them in stalled on jeeps that I've worked on. The bottom one remains where it is.

I bought a jeep thar already has a body lift and I was going to lwer it some. I has the rubber puck the the body mount then another rubber puck the the plastic 3 " spacer to the bottom of the Jeep.I was wanting to know if I could removerthe rubber puck between the plastic spacerand the top part of the mount.....I would drop about a inch.

Short answer is yes you can do that. But go back to Gerry's original post. If the kit is installed that means all the mods have been done to the shifter and fuel lines. The shifter is probably going to have to be adjusted or modified for the drop down. I'm curious; did the previous owner do a belly up skid?

There are many companies that make them. But this is what he was referring too.
