  • Keep Blowing Fuse

    2008 JKU
So I finally got around to trouble shooting my passenger side tail light and blinker running light not working. Found a blown 15A put new one in and pop so I put a 20 in pop 25 pop 30 works for about 3 seconds then the lights dim the fuse will not blow but gets very hot... afraid of melting something the fuse wants to blow for a reason???

Aux power adapter does not work either. Tried using a crap AC thru it one and to fried it. New fuse did not do the trick?

    Anyone have any ideas?

You got a short! find it and fix it before replacing the fuses with bigger ones.

Thanks for the quick reply that was what I thought so I took the dash around the radio off. Cig lighter is not on the same circuit and all wires in there look good. what blows is the guy who owned this before used a sh!t ton of those quick connect splice things and there is like 15 scattered throughout and I just found four more in the dash... I am sure it is one of those. This is going to be fun.

Fuses protect the wire from melting and starting a fire. Never replace a fuse with a larger value unless you also increase the size of the wire.

Thanks that was what I assumed and is why I shut her down quick once I found a fuse that would work. That way I can at least find the wire I need to replace. I have a 4 day weekend so I am gonna strip the passenger side down to expose all the wires. If I can't find a worn wire I think I may just try to cut the wire at the fuse box and run a new single wire back to the tail light. I assume that will work? this freaking blows...

          Thanks again for the response.

          I wanna go wheelin,

If you know any auto mechanics or cable installers, ask if they have a tone generator/probe. That could help you track down the wire you're looking for. Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Extech-40180-G.../dp/B00023RVNO

Thanks I would venture to say a friend of mine should have this little tool.
