new muffler install

i just installed a new muffler on my xj. its a thrush welded from summit racing. sounds really aggressive but not to obnoxious. it still has to break in so it should tone down just a bit. nothing fancy just welded to the cat and i used the old tail pipe 90 for the turn down.

I thought they get louder when you Break Them in???

A longer tailpipe will mellow it. It's best to have it exit from below the body. There have been cases where guys have been idling while stuck and been poisoned by carbon monoxide. Even to bring it over the axle and out behind the tire will make a big differencein sound. Keep the diameter matched to the muffler output and you'll keep the tone as low as possible, it also will have a minimal effect on flow.
