  • Rattlesnake Canyon questions

    1. What is the name of the mining camp at the south end of Rattlesnake Canon.
    2. Does anyone have a specific GPX point for it?
    3. Does anyone know if it is included in the GPX file posted by Doug here:
    http://www.myjeeprocks.com/forums/sh...lesnake-Canyon

    Or by Sarah/Jeepster89YJ here: http://www.rattlesnakecanyontrail.com/

    Thanks!

There is more than 1 area of mining activity near the southern end of Rattlesnake Canyon.

The Viscera Springs Placer Mine, McClure-Bess Mine, Jeff Davis Mine & Morongo King Mine.

Some were still active in the 1930's and 1940's. That area was one of the busiest mining areas in East Big Bear starting in the 1860's.

N34° 14.672 W116° 39.584 This location has a large barn/equipment shed, main house, bunk house and various items of incomplete and rusting mining equipment.

Thanks Doug. Those photos are a few years old I think. I was there this past Sunday and the upper portion of the barn has totally collapsed, and the crane is completely rusted now. For lack of better terms, I will call that site "Viscera Springs Mining Camp"
