• TJ: stock tire carrier limit

I have bolted my spare BFG MT (35,12.5,15) on a steel wheel to my stock carrier. It fits well as the mounting area is close to the rear of the tire. However, I'm concerned if the stock carrier can carry the weight.
This wheel/tire seems about twice as heavy as the piddly stock tires.

The carrier will hold the tire all day. The week link is the door. The weight of your spare will bend the door and even tear the sheet metal.
It was like that when I got here.

My hinges began wearing out on my old YJ and the door sagged.
I'll keep my money, guns and freedom...you can keep the "Change".

My YJ door latch fell apart with the stock spare.

It will be fine as long as you make sure the tire rests on the bumper when the tailgate is closed. If you don't do this, the tire will bounce around and destroy your tailgate hinges in no time.
If you don't have the time to do it right, what makes you think you'll have the time to do it twice?

Agreed. If it doesn't currently rest on the bumper, you can weld or bolt a spacer in there to make the tire sit on it.

I think I'll start to look for a carrier swing gate/ bumper.
Thats because I need somewhere for the jerrycan, hilift also.
Any recommendations?

I have the one made by Body Armor. It'll carry all that you mentioned. I have a 35 on mine, no complaints.
