  • Brokeback Tranny

Theres a thread about a bleeding clutch, now there's BROKEBACK TRANNY.
Been getting some nasty new whining and growling from what I thought was the NV231. Went to change the tranny filter at 70,000 mile interval and found a HAIRY MAGNET...

    And a pan full of...

I think that crescent-shaped piece is the forward thrust washer for the govenor. Guess I know what I'll be doing every night this week.

Interesting shavings pattern. Not good, just interesting. Good luck with that one.

the thread title seriously had me worried for a sec. I think the worst part though is that i sought it out.

                No. Fliter retaining screws.

3 speed Chrysler transmissions are easy to fix, just clean the internals of the valve body real good and see if you can flush the torque convertor to get all the metal crap out

Looks like a combo of the front pump bushing taking a :poop: and the front and rear bands wearing heavily. Everything else looks good. Got a high perf rebuild kit coming from Oregon. Should be back in the Jeep Friday.

Well, spoke too soon. The front planetary gearset went hasta la bye bye. Bushings in the planetary gears failed tremendously.

So, does anyone have a Torqueflite 727, A999, or as Jeepers know it, the 32RH tranny sitting around I can scavange the front plantetary set out of? I found reman ones online for $70.00 bones but don't know how long it takes to get them. I need yesterday!

I'd rather solve the 'Bleeding Clutch' than the 'Brokeback Tranny". Dont know about trannys yet anyway... I'll keep reading as everyone posts up, hopefully learn something the easy way, instead of my way. Lots of luck.
