  • replacing my winch cable

i notticed my line was starting to look a little iffy and i dont want to take any chances if i need it. i bought it used and dont know how many times its been used and it was never respooled correctly (is that the right term?). ive used it once on a 20 foot pull. i found this cable http://www.quadratec.com/products/92120_1000.htmand was wondering what you guys think of it. its the same specs as what i have now. i have a warn xd9000

Doesn't the xd9000 have 5/16 cable? If so the 3/8 x 100 would be to long.

Quadratec is the world's highest priced source of Jeep parts, not to mention their outrageous shipping charges. I definitely would not buy it from Quadratec.

If you want to stay with wire, go for 125' of 5/16 which is what your Jeep came with. 3/8" is too large of a diameter for that size winch when talking wire rope.

I bought several 125' lengths of 5/16" wire rope for way less $$$ from http://www.recoverygear.com/motorsports_recreational and was very happy with the product.

I later switched to 100' of 3/8" synthetic rope which while more expensive, is easier to use, lighter, and it will usually last longer than wire rope does since wire rop kinks and breaks more easily. Viking Offroad is a good source for synthetic ropes, snatch straps, tow straps, etc..

No idea, I don't normally trust anything with Smittybilt's name on it... it probably came from China.

And 120' of 3/8" synthetic is too much, that much extra rope could damage or destroy the frame when the winch line winds up unevenly on one side. The most your HS-9500i can safely hold is 100' of 3/8" synthetic which is what I ran on my previous HS-9500i.

I MISS my HS-9500i, best winch in the world. It was on my '97 TJ that was stolen in March. I went with Warn's new 9.5XP on my replacement '04 TJ but I'd rather have my old HS-9500i back.
