OK, I've bit the bullet. I flipped my 06 LJ on its side, damaging the windshield, passenger door and fiberglas roof. The insurance company wants to total the rig, but I'm not happy with that option and want others.

Can anyone offer advice on these options, or suggest others I haven't thought of:

    (1) Buy back the salvaged rig and then repair it myself. One option is to replace the busted parts, or buy another Jeep and swap bodies.

    (2) Walk away with the check.

My problem is I live in an apartment and don't have garage facilities or tools of my own, so I can't do it myself.

I'd love to hear if anyone has advice on (1) options, (2) trusted shops to do the work, or (3) things to avoid.

Is what you listed really the extent of the damage . . . Windshield, door, and top? If so, to me this is a no brainer . . . let them total it out, get the check, buy it back and fix it. Shoot for those things you don't even need a shop . . . all of these items are made to be removed anyway, you could replace them all right at your apartment with just a couple basic tools and a buddy to lift or hold here.
That which does not kill me postpones the inevitable.

And remember, chicks dig body damage...
I've owned mine for 6 years and don't have that much stuff on it. I would opt for the check and buy it back.

Buy it back. I would go to the junk yard and buy a windshield frame and a door. Then buy a new soft top and some cool corner guards to cover the rest of the body damage. I bet you could get all this done with the money you get from insurance.

Actually, if you don't buy it back I am sure that several MJR folks would jump at the chance.

            Buy it back!

I'm having a difficult time understanding how a Jeep could be totaled from a simple flop on its side. I'm assuming that the list is what your Jeep has now and not what you want to do. If that is the case it’s a no brainier if it were me. Get the Jeep back.

Windshield replacements are easy. Trust me I know.

The list of damage doesn't sound bad enough to total. Maybe a picture of the damaged vehicle would help better. However like everyone else said the parts you labeled as damaged are easily removed and replaced with just a basic socket and wrench set.

I flopped my JK last year, had 10K dammage and bent frame, they fixed it no questions. Looked brand new when complete.

                        Pics or it didnt happen!

Before buying it back, check the policy of a salavage title from your insurance company on the liability after the fact.
That way you have peace of mind again.
Just remember after a salvage title you have to jump through hoops to reregrister it.

                        or

Get the check and buy mine J/K

Just from what I've heard, you can buy back the rig at a deal. But from what I understand it will be a salvage vehicle and won't be able to get full coverage on it, only liability.

You are correct. With a salvage title, you can only obtain liability insurance. I would go to battle with the insurance company. Don't just roll over and let them total it. Did you have a customized vehicle rider to cover all the aftermarket goodies? I have all my aftermarket stuff insured and it only added $130.00 per year. They are much less likely to total the vehicle with $20K worth of additional parts on the policy.
