  • How Do you install a hard top by yourself?

With the cold mornings now it's just too cold to drive my Jeep to work with just the bikini top on it. Even though we'll still have quite a few warm afternoons.

So today, even though I didn't want to, I put the hard top back on my Jeep.

I decided not to bother anyone and just do it myself.

How did I do it by myself you ask?? Here's how:

    Pretty cool eh?

Good idea. Just remember to remove ALL the bolts before you start jacking the hoist up.

Good job roger! Ingenuity will prevail!

I think i still got you beat though (used a diesel engine)
An XJ will always cost you less then any girl ever will, and you will always know when the spark is gone.

            Nice

Thats how I do mine. Engine hoist, home made spreader bar and rope. Mine will go back on after PVD in November.

Dang! I think you beat me!

A sixpack? That's all?? You got off cheap!

Alittle off - Great minds think alike!

Yes I custom built the spreader bar for the project: 36" scrap of 2x4 I had, eye bolt I had, two ratchet straps I had, & two towels from wife's stock (BTW it's easier to just take them and apologize to the wife later!)

Cherry picker: A tool for testing the tensile strength of anything you forgot to disconnect.

The first time i pulled my engine on the jeep i disconnected the fuel line from the rail, but didnt see the little bracket that bolts to the intake manifold, that is one strong hose!

i dont know how many times i broke my back over the roof of the YJ. thats why i sold her a bought a XJ. when i tear the roof off, it stays off. nothing like mud in your teeth and dust in your eyes.

Hah, an engine hoist... very cool idea. I managed to get mine on by myself a few times but it was a PITA. Sliding it on from the rear was the only way I could get it back on without help or hoist.
