If you wait another month or two there will be tons of 8.8s in the salvage yards as a result of cash for clunkers. They may even get a bit cheeper for a while. Before you go to the yard make sure you print out the tag numbers from "FORDification.com". Also if you have a dial indicator it wouldn't be a bad idea to check the backlash on the axel before you buy it.

You mean they're not melting down all the parts into ingots or something? Actually, that process could create a lot of greenhouse gases, so they'll probably ship the scrap to China so they can melt it down.

Salvage yards are allowed to scrap juat about everything but the long block. And they can not sell the drivetrain as a whole. But they must crush or shred the cars within 180 days.

I got my 4.10 8.8 from Dave's Auto Wrecking out in Otay Mesa, San Digeo for $250. It was a long drive, but that was the best price I could find, and I looked for a really long time. Give em a call and see what they got.

So troll until you find the specs, or someone that has one, and take some pics. then buy some steel, and a welder, and torches (or plasma) and some clamps, and a bender..... ad nauseum

For about 150 bucks you buy one very nicely made that has a snug fit, not worth the hassle of making one that looks like :poop:

I got mine at All Ford in Orange. I paid $350(no exchange) for it and got a 4.10 with limited slip. I got the 8.8 install kit from MORE. Stu has a good writeup for the swap and filled me in on the e-brakes. Knowing what I know now, I probably should have just bought the new e-brake cables from MORE.
