  • FYI on Odometer saying "NO BUS"

Just wanted to share my experience; you may already know this but thought i would share.

I kept getting a "No Bus" message on my Odometer and my airbag, check engine lights would turn on. This was killing me as it was annoying. I did a lot of reading on it and found other TJ owners with the same problem. Some costly, some not. I was about to go to an electrician and spent some cash, but i accidentally did something else that worked.

I installed my tube fenders and had to remove my battery. WHile the battery was out, i decided to clean it since it was really corroded. I used a metal brush and cleaned it up like new. WOW, it has now been 3 months and not one problem with the "No Bus" message. Everything has been working perfect. I assume the battery was not making a solid contact which in tunr was confusing the OnBoard computer.

Just thought you should try this first if you have the same issue.

I would think that, just like OBD codes, removing the battery has just cleared this error from the memory. It is possible this may come back. But since it is not a drivability issue you should be ok to cross your fingers and hope for the best.

Scott you are correct, no buss means that the instrument cluster is not communicating with the ECM.
It has some sort of communication problem on it communication buss, which is most likely a poor connection/ corrosion problem at one of the connections or terminators

That was a commom problem for some year TJ's. There are grounds behind the gauge cluster that are loose. You have to remove the cluster and tighten the two I think screws that fasten the grounds. Problem fixed!
