The moral of the story is on a YJ or a TJ do not run it without the outer stub shafts in place, people have gotten killed doing that, the bearing will come apart, not always but why take the risk its not that hard to knock the u joint out of the shaft that or collect 2 big bolts and nuts and a thck washer slightly larger than the hub piece thats pressed in the unit bearing so 6you can sandwich it together

WOw Kurt, I dodn't see this post until jsut now as I have been traveling a bit. Real glad things turned out as they did. You can always fix a Jeep, but Rats' can be difficult to repair. Besides, this just means that it is time.............to UPGRADE! A Jeeper's favorite word.Quando Omni Flunkus Moritati

I saw lot of hp30 at the pick apart by mine and arts house in ontario. I am just waiting for 1/2 price day. lol If you have to change the gears anyway might as well put one in if they are cheeap enough. I wonder if the gears would of failed on a high pinion set up. With your alloy axles and a hp d30 it probably be as good as a d44. I think the carriers iterchanged also.Last edited by Jeeperator; 10-13-08, 03:03 AM.
