    shifter questions

    hey ya'll i want to throw a hurst T handle shift knob onto my stock shifter. how do i get the factory know off? there is no set screw, the shift pattern doesnt seem to pop out, unless you have to wreck it to get it off. it doesnt seem to want to just twist off...any ideas? i have a 2000 tj, 4cyl 5spd if that matters. also if i ever do get it off, what is the thread pattern, 3/8s? coarse or fine? i guess i can figure that out once its off. anyways thanks alot for any help.

    You do have to pretty much wreck the shift pattern thing. I still have a little "marring" on mine from when I popped mine off months ago. Once you get under it, you'll see the threaded post and nut on there. Don't remember the size. Good luck!

      The shifter shaft is a 10mm 1.5 thread. Materdaddy must be a klutz ( ) if he can't get that shift pattern plate out without marring it. Just use a small flat bladed screwdriver to pry it out, mine came out without problem.

      Hey you know I was kidding, you gonna be at the Expo this year with your son? I'm trying to go Saturday.

        You know I'm a klutz. That's why when I have any REAL work that needs to be done on the heap I hire a professional...

          hmm i tried to pop it off with a screwdriver, well i will just try harder next time, i dont care if i wreck it.

          I will come to the expo if ya'll pay for my gas....
