Faded Plastic on 4x4's

Does anyone have a good suggestion for reconditioning the plastic on 4x4's, especially the fender flares on Jeeps and side panels on the Avalanche?

I used a torch to get my flares looking black again. You have to move it evenly over the flare or you'll get splotches. I know that a lot of people like to paint them with Krylon Fusion, also. I already had the torch and didn't care if they came out less than perfect, so I went that route.

I had some work done on a travel trailer a few years ago and ther were able to brighten and make the faded plastic trim shine again by using the same plastic polish you buy to polish plastic head light lenses. You might give that a try. Not as fun as the torch but may be the ticket. Check out the internet or an RV dealer that has the head lamp lense polish kits.

You may even try the polish kits for soft top window polishing.

I used Krylon Fusion Satin Black. It lasted for about a year before it looked like crap. Then it took another 4 months for me to do anything about it. About 3 weeks ago I finally repainted them, this time using "SEM Satin Black Plastic and Vinyl Color Coat". It looks good, but I don't know how long it will last. Here's a pic shortly after I was done:

Anybody tried "Back to Black" I've got some and it's worked pretty well on other stuff . . . my flares aren't old enough for me to worry about fading, but I tried the plastic polish on them . . . my Jeep is black and it almost looked like they were painted to match!

Yes. We used it my dad's 02 sport. It works good but it will take a few coats of it.

Hey guys.. Thanks for the good information. I have used most of these products and none seem to work well for any period of time. I do not want to keep do this over and over.
I did hear about a product called Armodillo that you can get from a auto dealer and have them put it on for you. I really want to do this myself so since my last post I googled this and found a company called Urethane Supply that has a product called Bumper and Cladding Coat that comes in almost 50 matching colors. They guarantee it to work and say its quick and easy, and for under $20.00 a aerosol can, I think I will give it a shot.

i have heard good things about using Penetrol.
you can find it at home depot in the paint section.

baby oil. wipe up the excuess and it wont run on the paint, ofcourse this only works if you use it before it starts getting too faded
