  • XJ Rear Bumper

Started with 2x5x3/16 tubing. I used 1/4 inch plates for the original mounts. Its also supported by the hitch in three places and the quarters are 3/16 and bolted to the body.

Tied in some quarter panel protection. I didn't want to cut the quarters yet.

I didn't want the latch sticking out so I gave this a try. Still a few finishing touches to do. I'm not into body work. Rick advised flat black paint when I started this project and it has worked very well at hiding stuff.

Rick mentioned the possibility of wanting to carry extra fuel so I changed the tire position while building it.

Sweet bumper man! But no issues with this latch? Looks precarious, like a hard enough bump will unlatch it?

It won't unlatch if he's got it tight enough on its seat. Think like a vice grip, once it's clamped closed, pressure keeps it there. I'm believing it'll stay closed if the tightness of it is right. And apparently it's certainly adujastable so he souldn't have a problem.

Is the 2x3 cross tube threaded for the latch bolts, or is there a low profile nut on there or something?

This corner protection looks freakin sweet, very nice job:
