  • xj rear shocks through floor

well time to cut a bit of the xj, im tired of maxing out the rear shocks seems like no matter what you do theres just not enough shock in the rear of an xj, plus the stock shocks bind and twist when being flexed doesnt help either. im at work right know so when i get home ill post some pics.

      shocks through floor

took off the rear swaybar a while ago, and the piece that bolts the swaybar to the body looks just like a shock mount, so i saved them for this project, it also happend to fit right on top of the ubolts and bolts right up. thats this piece.

        rear shocks

and heres a few more pics of my progress, i'll be able to run like 14'' travle shocks when i get my new leafs, the ones i have are 10'' travel which is like twice as much as i had. still need to fab up upper shock mounts, and reinforce where i cut the holes.

That looks sweet! Will that eliminate your back seat? thats a good idea with the rear sway bracket... Keep em coming. The LWB needs some good posts.

            rear shocks

no it wont eleminate the back seat ive got kids and i need the seat. im thinking of making shock hoops instead of running a tube across the rear of the jeep, so i still have room for my spare for know till i do a rear bumper-tire carrier, that will be a while.//Kevin

Yeah i figured shock hoops would be the best way to go too... any idea what your going to use to build them, metal wise?

Maybe some cro-moly pipe would work, it's strong yet light-weight and welds just like normal steel. Here's an idea for you.

                  rear shocks

ya thats how i wanted to do it ,but with saving the rear seat its not going to be possible, gonna have to run a bar across the rear, id draw you a little pic of my idea but i dont know how you guys do those little drawings on the computer. should have some more pics soon.//Kevin

Thanks for the compliments guys. It's really easy...I just use paintpad on the desktop. Just take some time a fiddle with the options and settings.

Hey Kevin, do you need some help with any drafting ideas? If so just let me know and I'll do what I can to help you...as well as any one else here.

KUL...maybe custom buckets for the kids....
UH...don't forget about the shock angle during articulation.

                            angles

ya thats kinda why i stopped, for 1 im waiting for my shocks the fox shocks are to short, and i wanted to check out my buddies jeep so i could see how much movement they get, its actually not much may have to oval the hole out a little, i ve grown up with the so cal chapter pres. of NAXJA hes right around the corner so ive been cheating and going by his, at least ill only have to do it once, because i know itll work great.. so its pretty much all about the leafs. if i cant get the flex that i want this way, im gonna go coilovers and link it in the rear. more to come soon.///Kevin

When you make the shock towers, do the shocks have to follow the same angle as stock or can you change it and it still work fine?
