Thats kinda what I would like to do. Custom tank, ditch the stock pump, run aftermarket pump/reg/etc. What parts did you use and how well does it run?

A clunk pickup (model airplane technology :geek: ) with Walbro valves.
Mallory pump with return line connection
Lots of cool AN fittings
All new tubing
40 and 10 micron filters
Custom filler neck
Stock regulator on fuel rail
So far it runs great and no leaks!!! Idle OK, WOT OK, starting OK.
Won't get to try it on the trail for another couple of weeks.

I have learnt a couple of things about fuel cells.
If you use it like a lawnmower gas can - no probs.
If you want a more slick installation by installing a filler neck it gets a little more tricky.
When you dump fuel in the filler neck it backs up and spits gas all over the place.
When driving with a full tank, fuel sloshes out of the vent :poop:
So you actually need 2 vents.
1. Running vent. For this use the 8AN vent fitting tied in to the emis cannister. This fitting has a roll over valve so no worries there.
2. Fill vent. Add a 1/2" (or bigger) vent, no roll over valve, and plumb it to the fill neck a couple of inches from the top. This will be sealed closed then the gas cap is in place.
If you want the skinny on sender units look for the next installment."your jeep looks so hot!!"

I do have a fuel cell thread :yay:
OK....
Forget the RCI vent. I capped it off. Closed. Done. It constantly seemed to pick up raw gas, no matter what I did with the plumbing.
For the running vent I welded a 1/8 tube into the 2" fill neck at TDC. My hope was that raw gas would slosh along the bottom (2") and the fumes would vent through the top (1/8"). So far it seems to work.
The external pump was also a bad idea. I'm sure it could be made to work but I wasn't going to fart around with it. Instead I went back to an internal pump. It was a pain to make up mounting brackets and electrical feed-throughs but the system has been much more reliable.
My only remaining concern is that the pump seems to get very noisy when the fuel heats up. What's 50C in English?...that's how hot the fuel gets"your jeep looks so hot!!"
