  • Anyone have JD2 tube bending dies?

I'm finally going to purchase a tube bender (JD2 Model 3), I'm going to get a 1" square tube die to start out with, as that's what I'll be making furniture and stuff with mostly, I'll probably eventually get a 1.25" or 1.5" or 1.75" round die for jeep stuff later on.

My neighbor however, wants a few things made out of 1/2" round tubing. Now this is a size that I probably won't ever be making stuff out of again. So before buying one and selling it when I'm finished, I figured I'd ask here to see if anyone has a 1/2" round die I could borrow for a weekend?

On another note, would it be possible to use a 1" square die for 1/2" round tubing without kinking? Maybe heat up the tubing to help it bend easier? The 1/2" tubing isn't very thick walled.

Dont have jd2 dies. Dont have 1/2". What wall thickness are going to bend? You can buy a conduit bender for $15-$30 bucks that bends .065 wall easy. If you have to use the jd2 use the right size die. Thin wall tube buckles easily so using a larger die is asking for hard times.

Oh yea, I bet a conduit bender would work well on the 1/2" thin stuff! Didn't even think about that, thanks :-)

          Done. haha!

I can't wait to start playing with the JD2 bender though, it's something that I've been wanting to get into for a while now, and I finally have the willys pretty much out of the way, time to focus on furniture again :-)

FWIW a 3/4" EMT bender can do 1/2" schedule 40 and a 1" EMT bender can do 3/4" schedule 40. Haven't bent any tubing with them but pipe works good.
