Xj fender trimming

i took off the rear stock flares on my xj cuz i was gonna trim them but there is a little lip for mounting the flares to. if i cut it off completely then i cut off the pinch welds that hold together the fender well from the inside of the cab/tub. just wondering where to cut at and if anyone has pics of how they cut theirs. thanks.
