Passenger Seat Tumble Cable

My passenger tumble cable broke and I took part #04886308AA (and the cable) to my local Jeep dealer to order up a new one. I read the write-up on 4x4xplor.com which said the cable should cost around $25 which seemed like a lot, but I was willing to pay it.

My Jeep dealer had a different opinion. They want $70 for that cable!!!

I am looking for somebody who has a source for mopar/jeep parts to get that cable closer to the $25 mark.

I'm probably going to end up going to the bike ship and fixing it for $2, but if somebody can get this to me quickly, I'm willing to pay for the real cable.

I had the same problem with the dealer just the other day. They wanted $66 and some change. I laughed at the guy and told him I guess Chrysler has to pay back their govt. bailout money somehow. Any hey, I've been unable to find any other sources for the cable and decided to just make my own. My problem is that I haven't been able to get the tension right yet. First it was too loose and the seat wouldn't fold forward, then too tight and I snapped the new cable. I'll keep you updated if/when I get it fixed.

Mine broke too...but just decided to work around the seat in the Jeep. Will be watching to see if you find it somewhere cheaper.

I forgot to come back and hadn't taken the pictures off my camera yet. I fixed this on my Jeep just right, and have an easy adjustment. Mine is a one time fix though, if the cable breaks, I'll have to change my idea slightly.

Since the connectors on the ends of the cable are both the same, I flipped around the cable so the broken end was under the seat, and the original working end was at the seat hinge. Then, I took a grounding lug (like the upper right one here: http://www.seniorindustries.com/imag...Lug Groups.jpg) and bolted that to the lever under the seat. Then, I can slide the part of the cable that still remains into the portion for the cable and cranked down the ground cable terminal screw. It holds tight enough, and I can move the cable back and forth to test how tight the cable needs to be.

If the other end of the cable breaks again, I have a feeling I'll be able to do something similar again with the other side, even if I have to get a new cable from a bike shop.
