  • tire carrier latch

I'm building a tire carrier for the TJ. I have been looking ALL over the net for a specific type of rotary latch. its some what like the bear claw latch that rodders use but specifically its the latch that jeeperman systems use. i cant find it anywhere. anyone have any idea where this latch can be purchased? BTW dont say, "get it from jeeperman." They are no longer selling their product(s).

The Grip well Co. is where I get replacement latches for our cabintes and stuff. They can help you find what your looking for if they don't already have it on the shelf.

www.trimarkcorp.com has very similar two rotor latches not sure if they have the exact one though.

i saw the trimark website and requested a price. they are back ordered due to a military order and they also require a minimum of 25 per order. no thanks.

other web site looks good to but again thats a bear claw set up and if you look, the disengage handle would go upward into the carrier if i installed it like the jeeperman design.

          Hey Broken,
You should call the guys at Gripwell. They have found impossible to find latches on cabinets and systems that I get in from Europe and Aisa for me. I think they can find what your looking for. It's worth a try.

That latch looks very similar to what my RockHard tire carrier came with. Mine just has the lever in a different place. I wonder if you could get one from them (maybe leave out the "making my own" part and just act like you have their's and the latch broke:wink: )

You guys have some fancy latches! I just have a rod that slides into a cup. Serves the purpose but it would be nice if I could lock it. Do any of those other claw style ones have locks?

now we are talking.. or maybe you could call em up w/a invoice or receipt number and tell them you need a replacement and then i'll pay you plus a little for your troubles.

No worries bro Give them a call and just let them know that you need a replacement latch . . . I can't imagine they'd ask for a receipt and all that jazz as I'm sure they charge a hefty mark up for the part, but if they do hassle you, just PM me and I'll take a run at em with my invoice in hand:gun:
