So did you ever make your skid plate or are you now waiting for the new toy?

Yeah, we've got a plasma that we found in the pawn shop for $830. It is a hoot for cutting stuff. I am currently building a TIG welder to learn how to use, so that I can get state cert'd, and start making some $$$$. We also have a cutting laser that I built using a guide off of the website "Instructables.com". It can do engraving and cut thin sheet metal like fenders and hoods.

WHAT??? Did they do a new one? I saw the one for wood but never saw one that can cut metal. Is it practical?

I guess it is new, but the directions do say that it is for engraving, def. I have fiddled with mine on the power, and a different laser. It does cut hoods!!! (matter of fact, I get to replace a hood for a friend of mine that I screwed up. I was cutting holes in it for hood vents, and genius me layed them out upside down, but correct sie to side).
