  • Front License Plate mount

So, I got board the other day and I decided to try and figure out a way to mount the front license plate back onto my Jeep! I noticed several styles of front bracketrey in the various 4WD mags that come to my door every month. and they all run from about $40 to upwards of $100 depending on the style you want. I wanted something that I could mount to the Roller Fairlead of my winch and that I could take off easly. So, I went to AutoZone and found a Bell universal license plate mount for $6.99 and a Bell (Black metal) license plate frame for $4.99.

Now the the rollers on the Roller Fairlead are about the same size in diamiter as the D Cell Maglite so I knew that the hold down clips that I used on the maglite in the cab of my Jeep would work out fine! I then got a set of D Cell Maglite hold down clips for $5.99 at the local Ace True Value Hardware Store. I had tons nuts and bolts at the house so I started bolting it all together.

    .....and here's the finished product!

The total cost was about $18 bucks! and I can pull it off and throw it in the Jeep whenever I need to use the winch! :wrench::wink:

....After I posted this, I did a quick search on the net and found this... (Not wanting to be shown-up!) Here's a link to another home made mount, that costs alot less (even though I think it looks alot less sturdy than the one I came up with) :2:

      Dan,

That's a nice, clean job you did there. I've always heard that there was someone who used a front licence plate, now I know who it is!

yep in ca we do. really pisses off the corvette owners because it dosen't have a place to mount it so you have to screw it into the bumper. oh Mitch it was Scott that did the build on that.

That's a good one. I do remember someone else with that mod... was it Nailer? I remember a pull off or a flip down somethingorother to access the winch.

I just have mine bolted to the passenger side fender lip. When I ride through gravel and rocks, it gets bent forward from being pelted continuously. I just bend it back at the end of trail runs.

I'm thinking the FREEK is a bit more extreme than the FREAK. Incorrect grammar is edgy.
